For Marie Jaell, the divine spark seems to be the ultimate quest. Yet it is always when two entities meet that sparks fly... Her rare complicity with Liszt was undoubtedly a catalyst, as he said of her: "A man's name and your scores would be on every music stand". Her career is fascinating. A pianist of breathtaking virtuosity, she readily embarked on complete projects (she was the first to play the complete Beethoven sonatas in France in 1893, or the five Saint-Saens concerti in a single day). Pianist Celia Oneto Bensaid describes this encounter at the pinnacle of music: "Both Liszt and Jaell inspire me. As composers and virtuosos, they are the embodiment of freedom, self-improvement and an avant-garde spirit.
