Best known for their work on the soundtrack for the Academy and Grammy Award nominated movie “Little Miss Sunshine”, DeVotchKa is hard to categorize. Their Concord debut This Night Falls Forever is the first studio release for the group since 2011 “100 Lover’s” on Anti. The 11-song album contains the lead track “Straight Shot” which has both a music and lyric video. As you will hear / see, their music is part indie rock, part folk and gypsy like. Their unique sound comes from incorporating theremin, strings, accordion, tuba, trumpet and bass clarinet with the more traditional guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Originally a backing band for burlesque acts, DeVotchKa is the Russian word for “girl”. The group is led by Nick Urata who is also a well accomplished at film scoring. In addition to “Little Miss Sunshine”, Nick has composed music for more than two dozen films including “Crazy Stupid Love”, “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” and “Paddington”. The band will be touring Europe to support This Night Falls Forever beginning in late November. In addition to music and lyric videos for “Straight Shot”, there is a lyric video for “Empty Vessels”. The album is available on both CD and LP.
