Since the 19th century, the term “salon music” referred to musical works composed for one or more instruments to be played as entertainment at society evenings, so they were meant for small
audiences. If “salons” have gradually gone out of fashion in the 20th century, the repertoire of music written for them has survived. It is in the entertainment spirit characteristic of “salon
music” that we recorded this program of not very well-known but rich and various music for oboe and guitar. It will take us on a tour of Europe : from France through Austria to Hungary, across a
century of diverse and contrasting musical aesthetics.
